The Problem

We have noticed something very worrying.

Many children today are struggling in school—not because they are not smart, but because they are not being taught in a way their brains understand.

Most schools focus only on teaching the left side of the brain—things like facts, numbers, and logic. But a lot of children are right-brain learners. They learn best through pictures, stories, music, emotions, and imagination.

When these children don’t learn the “usual” way, they are often called lazy, distracted, or slow. But that’s not true. The real problem is the method of teaching—not the child.

If we don’t change how we teach, we may never discover the genius hiding inside many of our children.

The Effects on the Learners

The effects of traditional teaching methods on today’s learners are a serious concern. Many children—especially those who are naturally right-brain dominant, which often includes the majority of students in a typical classroom—are not being reached effectively through current teaching practices.

When the right side of a child’s brain is not actively engaged during lessons, the brain looks for stimulation in other ways. This is why some students may begin doodling, tapping their legs, or playing with their pencils. These behaviours are often misunderstood, and such students are wrongly labeled as ‘unfocused,’ ‘distracted,’ or having ‘short attention spans.’

In reality, these children are not struggling with intelligence or attention—they are simply not being taught in a way that connects with how their brains work best.

To support right-brain learners effectively, teaching must go beyond lectures and repetition. It should include creative strategies such as the use of colour, imagination, storytelling, rhythm, movement, and even guided daydreaming. These elements help make learning more engaging and meaningful for the children who need it most.
